Softening your sound doesn't automatically mean "trying to fill the market". That's a weird mentality that too many metal/rock fans still have. I don't think that's what you were implying but it comes close.
@marcel07 : I'm sure the other band you're referring to is We Are The Ocean. Both bands had very promising EPs then they blew up with their watered down full lenghts. I'm glad both changed their style to something that suit them much better. If you think they sold out, you're crazy. Poppy post hardcore is much more lucrative than the styles they're playing right now. In fact, that's the opposite of selling out.
Soldier_cloud: I agree with you on the fact that they sound a bit more like The Gaslight Anthem, that's all that I can think of with the new songs, but it's still good.
I agree that it lacks the edge that they used to have, and it seems a bit formulaic, the whole thing. But like I said, I still think it's good, and they hinted at this sound with the bonus disc for Fools And Worthless Liars already, and that the bonus disc was more inspired by the music they actually listen to today, and I think that Old Souls really is somewhere in between Fools And Worthless Liars and the bonus disc, + some The Gaslight Anthem, haha.
So I've tried guys... I really have. I Fucking love "Meet Me Halfway, At Least" and I don't think the day will come to pass when it is removed from my iTunes. I don't dislike the new stuff but it's not nearly as good as your first album... Not even close.
