Because of Bow Wow Japan may have had real metal before the USA even... depending on which bands you count. Sir Lord Baltimore and Grand Funk Railroad are contenders. But Martin Popoff lists the Van Halen debut as the heaviest American album of the 70s (per https://rateyourmusic.com/list/warpigcat/the-heaviest-100-albums-of-the-70s-by-martin-popoff/), which is both lighter and later than Signal Fire.

Exactly, Shad Gregory Moss is Lil' Bow Wow and he shouldn't have dropped the "Lil'" from his name. There's plenty of "Lil'" or "Lil" artists that are 20+ years old. He thinks he "grew up" when he dropped "Lil'" from his stage name.
