  • The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers.
  • If you click on that red label or on the Events tab, you can see a valid event "The Sessions at Abbey Road": http://www.royalalberthall.com/tickets/events/2016/the-sessions-at-abbey-road/
  • On tour? Paul and Ringo with the ghost of George and John?
  • On tour?
  • To Amlaitheu: clever and respectful. Thank you! The Beatles ARE great whatever one may think, they made the music of the 1960s, they won their place in the history of music. New bands may come to the top, and such will surely be, but the Beatles' place will remain theirs forever.
  • Honestly, i don't give a fuck about the tags after the shitty new layout in last.fm
  • @GhostHaunted, переоцененные - не значит плохие. Согласен, тоже считаю их переоцененными.

  • In my personal opinion there are two Beatles: Pop Beatles and "Psych" Beatles. Honestly i start to liking Beatles when i heard "Revolver" and Sgt Peppers, but the catchy songs of the first records are so fucking good. And yes they are pop. THe same Pop that we hate today, but different. I don't know if i'm explaning right, anyway considering the Beatles as overrated is not so wrong: everybody talks about and records like SGt Peppers are considered by many as the biggest record of all time. Well, this is in doubt. But you (@Currison) have to consider at the time they destroyed everything, they were the "alternatives ones" even if our grandmas listen to them and yes i know they were much experimental bands in those years, but c'mon man how can you not feel anything listening to songs like: "Tomorrow Never Knows"? Ahahah i know what you mean and maybe they are overrated, but essential as no band will ever be.
  • I would not say The Beatles are overrated at all. The Beatles managed to stand out and be different from any other band at the time. Not only that, but they also had a very speciel personality. And saying fuck you hippie (@Currison) is a bit silly, since that was just how things were at the time. The Beatles was influenced by different bands themselves, but they have also managed to influence and inspire tons of new musicians through time aswell. Making a conclusion on what the worlds best band is would nearly be impossible, what should we look for? Some people would say The Beatles, some would say Queen and even One Direction would be mentioned simply because people are different. I know what bands I enjoy though and I know for sure that The Beatles have put their mark in music history.
  • This is the most overrated group ever! FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKING HIPPIE!
  • Look Barney, of course they were influenced by other bands and musicians. I don't think there's ever been an artist that wasn't influenced by someone or something, that's the nature of creativity; you take something that already exists in one form and you add some of your own to it. If you're as creative as The Beatles, you actually change the course of music by doing so. The Beatles through their innovative use of already existing studio and songwriting techniques were the ones that, on a poplevel, were calling the shots during the 60s. The other bands around them followed whatever course they chose. Also they redefined what it meant to be a pop band, in so doing they influenced all the other popular rockbands that followed them.
