Elton John heard a Leon Russell song one day and had an epiphany. He decided then and there that he wanted to make an album with Leon. Elton also decided that it had to be produced by the one and only T-Bone Burnett. The result is Union, a new album containing 14 piano-driven songs that balance between rock, americana, and balladry. Several were written by the famous duo of Elton John and Bernie Taupin. Leon contributed a couple of his own songs and also collaborated on others with Burnett, John and Taupin.
Read along and listen in as we flash back to WNEW in the 70's & 80's to revisit these artists thoughts and see how the Union came to be

It’s not every day that we host an Oscar winner for a musical performance at Street Date. It’s even more rare that an artist shows up with a batch of new songs produced by T-Bone Burnett, and stories from the year that changed this young man’s life forever.
Ryan Bingham‘s new album is called Junky Star and it’s his first effort since rising to fame on the back of his tune “The Weary Kind” – last year’s oscarwinner for Best Original Song. Check out his song “Depression” also; Click through to hear the rest of the acoustic

We finish up our feature this week with my interview with Lydia & Laura Rogers. The Secret Sisters, hailing from Mussel Shoals, AL, had their debut album released this week. They will be involved in T-Bone Burnett ‘s The Speaking Clock Revue shows taking place on the 16th and 20th, at the Wang Center in Boston, MA and the Beacon Theatre in NYC, respectively.

2010年 2月 19日, 13:37 作者：JoeIsListeningMasochist that I am, here I go for the third year in a row with my answer to March Madness - namely Music Madness. Sixty-four songs randomly chosen by my iTunes, the only stipulation being that participants from previous years have been excluded.
This year's crop is interesting. There are no less than three long medleys here. There's not as much over-representation of artists this year; Ben Folds gets three - one with and two without the Five; and Sufjan Stevens and Smashing Pumpkins each score two entries (which is strange because I only have two Pumpkins albums). As in years previous, there's a great spread of material, from pop to prog to jazz to novelty. Jandek even rears his head once more. Seems like he's had an entry every year.
One changeup from last year. My difficulty rating symbol has been changed from the reliable asterisk to the plus sign - the scale being one plus (I could judge this one without listening to either song but I did anyway just to be fair) to five pluses (why…
2009年 1月 6日, 14:55 作者：JoeIsListeningJust as I did around this time last year, here is a list of the twenty albums I listened to the most in 2008. Most interesting is the disappearance of a couple of track-packed double album sets from Rosemary Clooney and Talking Heads, which popped up no doubt because of the sheer number of tracks on them. But then, why didn't my similarly packed collections from The Korgis or T-Bone Burnett show up? Who knows?
Also disappearing is The Commercial Album by The Residents - but I know why this one vanished. But this one I can explain: I made the switch from an iPod Shuffle to a 30 GB 5.5 Generation iPod this year. The shuffle loved the 40 sixty-second tracks from the giant eyeballs because it could use them as filler when it was almost full. Not so much anymore.
And now, the countdown begins.
Stan Ridgway – Holiday in Dirt (down 5)
The Dandy Warhols – Earth to The Dandy Warhols(new)
Stan the Man ties with the latest and most esoteric offering from The Dandy Warhols. …

Amon Amarth/ Ensiferum/ Belphegor/ The Absence @ The House of Blues in Chicago, 10/13/08
How many people were there?
i dunno, a few hundred at least
What bands have you seen in concert the most, and how many times?

What band are you in the mood to see live right this second?
Tool (I'm always in the mood to see them, so I suppose they don't count), Amon Amarth, Phish, Yonder Mountain String Band, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Amorphis
