P.S. If you disagree with me at least listen to the contemporary albums of Black Flag, Sex Pistols and even The Ramones and you'll see that Maiden at the beginning where both metal and punk influenced. As Metallica and Slayer were...learn the history of your favorite musicians..
Chillout people! when someone says that this album has a 'punkish' feeling isn't saying that is a punk rock album, is just admitting as Maiden DID that they ALSO were influenced by UK's punk. If you pay attention thats why Eddie's cover is 'punkish'. Chillout, dudes!!! No one is saying this isn't a metal album.
One of the best albums they ever made, and certainly one of the most diverse. Love the light and shade of Remember Tomorrow, Phantom, Strange World and Charlotte. There is just a great, bluesy vibe about some of the guitar playing on this album: kudos to Dave Murray.
As for the 4 tracks i havent mentioned yet, well, Phantom of the opera is quite a strange track that has been underrated, transylvania fits perfectly between phantom of the opera and strange world, which is a soft song. As for sanctuary, well, its awesome in every way. A must have
Number of the Beast and powerslave are better. But this isnt far behind either. Remember tomorrow and charlotte the harlot are the worst tracks on here, but even those are good. Running free sounds kind of like led zeppelin. Prowler is unique to any other iron maiden song. Iron Maiden is totally different, but awesome. Have to say it sounds better live though.
this is in my opinion their best album, closely followed by killers, i think the newer stuff they have made is brilliant, no doubt, but its just something with the two first albums that made me fall in love
If you ask for my opinion, Iron Maiden is by far the best album the band ever published. Different people, different preferences though ;) Anyway, does anyone have a clue why the release date of IM is supposed to be 30 Nov 1997 (as mentioned on last.fm) even though the correct day is 14 April 1980?
