A venue at the corner of Sutter and Van Ness, adjacent to the Avalon Ballroom.

The main entrance leads to a rotunda, with access to the hall, bathrooms (typically clean and well kept), separate stairs leading to the coat check room and balcony (mezzanine), and a room where merch stands and a refreshment stand are typically set up. There is an ATM machine in a hallway off of the rotunda.

The hall is a large room with a large wooden floor, with balconies above running down the length of the hall and across the back, for those who prefer to be seated. The hall usually has one or two refreshment stands on the floor, in the back, and on the side. It is accessed from three double doors, from a front room, the rotunda, and a hallway off of the rotunda.

The PA speakers are hung from the ceiling about a yard in front of the stage, so if one stands right up at the stage, the sound is often sub-par. If one stands close, typically you can only hear well what is coming out of the band’s cabinets and monitors closest to you. Vocals are often drowned out completely by whatever cab you are standing in front of. This really depends on how a given band has their sound set up. If the cabs are facing the audience, often you’ll only hear clearly the cab closest to you, and perhaps the drums. If they’re off to the side, you’ll hear a lot more, but typically vocals will be indiscernible.
