Manchester Club Academy is the smallest of the 4 academy venues. It has a great atmosphere and a bar. Its fair easy to get to: from centre of town simply follow Oxford Road all the way down until you can see a big church on the left hand side of the road. Academy is on the opposite side of the road. It takes approx 25 minutes on foot from Urbis, why this is relevant no one knows.
Most events on last.fm that say they were at Club Academy when they were actually at Academy 1. For some unknown reason people don’t have enough brain to know the difference between Club Academy and Academy 1 when adding events to last.fm, despite them both being in different buildings and having over 1,500 difference in capacity.
Extra Note: Many gigs are moved between venues if they are more or less popular than the promoters anticipated, so don’t be surprised if your gig is in a different venue when you arrive. This doesn’t really matter as the venues are all next to each other.
