In 1959 a new structure was built to host Song Festivals. In 1988 Estonians gathered here - at the Lauluväljak - to sing patriotic hymns in what became known as the Singing Revolution that led to the overthrow of Soviet rule. Today, Tallinn’s Song Festival Grounds are also used for hosting international acts, such as Metallica (in 1999 and 2006), Michael Jackson (in 1997), Õllesummer (biggest in North Europe beer fest) and others.
