Gallagher Park is one of Edmonton’s rare jewels, the longest urban river valley park in North America.

Nestled within a residential community, Gallagher Park is situated just above the river valley, across the street from the 1912 era Bennett School and Environmental Education Centre. The park is an all season round neighbourhood park catering to a wide variety of users: hikers, skiers and tobogganers.

During the winter months, the Edmonton Ski Club makes its home in the park. At the front of the park is the Cloverdale Community League and Hall where one can find everything from CPR classes to dances. Behind the hall is the outdoor hockey rink where one can learn with an instructor or just free skate. Or one can simply spend the day tobagganing down the steep hills the park provides.

During the summer, swings and slides can be used by preschoolers and elementary aged children. There are also climbing bars. Older children will benefit from the basketball hoop. Parents can watch the play from comfortable benches. The shiny blue railing surrounding the park gives it a festive feel.

In late August, Gallagher Park is home to one of longest running folk festivals in Canada, The Edmonton Folk Festival, Aug 4-7, just behind the Muttart conservatories, twenty-six years old and still going strong. Every year thousands of music fans converge on the natural amphitheatre setting of Gallagher Park for this annual folk festival. About 20,000 people a day converge on the park for music and related activities.
