The Student Union at the University of Leeds UK boasts Leeds’ largest live music venue The Refectory, as well as Stylus and Mine

The Refectory has been hosting gigs since the mid 1960’s and has a legendary place in rock n roll history. With recent performances by artists such as Bloc Party, The Strokes, The Killers, Amy Winehouse, Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons adding to the hall of fame that also lists The Who, Bob Marley, Led Zepellin, The Clash, Elton John and Paul McCartney, The Refec is the place to catch big acts in Leeds. Over the last 40 years, the venue has inspired and led the local live music scene by being the city’s local venue for big acts.

Stylus, with a smaller capacity of 1000, boasts Leeds’ most eclectic mix of live performances and club nights. In any one week audiences can select from heavy drum n bass, commercial tunes, breakbeat, indie, jazz, funk and reggae… there aren’t many venues like it around!

Mine is the newest venue at the Union, and with a capacity of 450, is the place to catch bands in an intimate environment. Recent performances by the likes of Mika, The Futureheads, Quantic Soul Orchestra and The Hoosiers have really put the venue on the map.
