Eric you're lucky. Clearly you can skip around pretty well with bands, whereas I am way too obsessed with one or two.

I'm sure Vampire Weekend are a bright bunch of guys, but you would be suprised at how many idiots and assholes I know who went to Columbia and NYU.

Nice to meet you! I was definately interested by the way they incorporated african music, one of the few genres I'm completely ignorant of into their own. I really like that their music doesn't sound for lack of a better term as whitebread as other indie bands. I heard them last year year on someone's myspace profile and went to see them in Nov, before they really broke out, so great.

It certainly qualifies as bizarre, but I think blogs, myspace, word of mouth and every media outlet's desire to seem hip and find the next big thing all played a part. Plus the fact that their music is undeniably infectious and they don't really sound like anyone else out right now helped. What is really bizarre to me is the fact I'm listening to a band that gets played on MTV WTF??
