last.fm graph (beta) - app to generate graphs of your weekly artist playcounts
26 Feb 2007, 21:47
I started to write a tool (with autohotkey) that generates graphs of your charts.
If you entered an username the software will download your weekly artist (and album) charts and their top tags and save them on your PC, so that it only has to download them one time.
Now you get a list of every artist you ever scrobbelt and lists of the tags and albums you played the most: (unicode is not working)

you can choose up to 7 artist/tags/albums and create graphs like these:

I didn't know that I suddenly begin to listen to a lot more indie and less punk. It seems that I listen to moe raggae in summer and more metal in winter.

I really began to like Nine Inch Nails the last months.
As an extra, you can now create a picture that shows how mush you are listening to your artists (overall) and how they're tagged:
(the colors stay for genres in the first picture)

Changes in 0.93: or should i call it 2.0? ;)
-added line mode
-added album charts*
-improved other artists
-some other changes
-removed old bar mode
* The data last.fm has is not very good, a lot of albums are missing in the weekly charts.
Changes in 0.94:
-fixed round bugs
-added "rolling round" and "smooth" function
-removed old round option
-added new colorscheme
added new graphs:
-Deviation to Overall
-Deviation to previous Month
-Deviation to previous Week
-Total Plays (norm.)
-Weekly AEP
-Overall AEP
Changes in 1.0:
-improved GUI
-ability to doubleclick on item in list to add it
-added new colorscheme
-added extra: Artist/Tag Squares (with tag colors option)
Download:
v1.0 download
(you can delete all data older than 0.91, because the software won't use it)
Remind that a lot of people are listening to CDs, LPs, MP3-player or other music that gets not scrobbelt. I think around 30% of data is missing for me and the most time full albums. So all charts are not really representative.

27 Feb 2007, 15:16apparently there is a problem when it tries to download my complete chart, it only downloads 15 artists, I tried 2 times. do you what is happening?.
another question , what operative systems does it support? -

now everything should work with v0.2b
(please delete your C26000 folder the programm has created to download and save the data again) -

28 Feb 2007, 11:50wow, this is a pretty cool thing. i see a lot of stuff i would try to change, but the beginning is here. a few things:
-what's the difference between graph 1 and graph 2?
-i would like some kind of scale, how many songs is a bar? which week is which?
-and now for the 'more work feature': when you would add all the bars up, you would have the total trackcount (at least from the moment the weeklies started). now you could make a (monotonous rising) line-graph from week to week, seeing periods of steep rise where you listened to the band a lot, and flat periods with no listening to that specific band. If you could plot a few artists in the same graph, you could see them competing for the top position, or you could see whether there's a correlation between listening to deutschpunk and metal :)
i love your avatar by the way, diy gifs for the win! -

sorry for filling up your comments with this stupid mistakes ...first I forgot the second question and then I wrote it wrong. this comment system really need an edit button. -

it supports win XP and maybe other windows versions, too (95,NT,98,2000,Vista). I can't test it.
what's the difference between graph 1 and graph 2?
There is no different. graph2 just exists so that you can display two graphs at the same time. for next version i try to get more then one artist in one graph.
i would like some kind of scale, how many songs is a bar? which week is which?
i want to add lines (maybe every 5 playcounts), and maybe mouse over information, too. the week thing is not so easy, because i have to import and save the dates first (and what does 1172404800 mean? ) .

this shouldn't be too mush work.
If you could plot a few artists in the same graph, you could see them competing for the top position
yes, i want get many artist in one graph next
or you could see whether there's a correlation between listening to deutschpunk and metal :)
i could try to get tags of the artists and make graphs of them, but this would be mush work -

that number is counter of seconds, You can convert it (LastfmSeconds) to a date with the following function -->
Date = 2006/12/18 + (LastfmSeconds - 1166356800) -

3 Mar 2007, 11:40Thanks for the work, soadize.
But there seems to be some kind of flaw (I think it has to do with the png's). Check out this screenshot I made: http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/489/zojl4.gif -

soadize wrote:
3 Mar 2007, 11:46do you have unzipped all the files? are the png's in the lfmG folder?
btw: you can change the pngs to whatever picture you like -
Xemper wrote:
3 Mar 2007, 18:12I'm having the same problem as jellevc. I've made sure I unzipped everything and tried replacing the pictures but I still end up with something like jellevc's screenshot. -

soadize wrote:
3 Mar 2007, 19:21Do you use windows older then XP? PNG is not supportet (without a dll)...
I uploaded a new version with JPGs, which should work. -
Xemper wrote:
3 Mar 2007, 20:24I was using a comp running on Windows ME which probably explain why it wasn't showing the bars. I've re-downloaded it on my XP comp and it works find. Nice little piece of software. -

jellevc wrote:
3 Mar 2007, 21:45Alright, works like a charm now. I am using Windows 2000.
Now all it needs are some indicators on the left and bottom of the charts. :-)
The track count on the left (10 20 30 40... etc, vertically building up) and the dates on the bottom!
But this is just in case you feel like putting more effort into it. I'm already grateful as it is, of course! -

any chance of choosing the time period, as i've got virtually 2yrs of charts so with 4 artists it's a bit cluttered? -

What would be nice too is a graph of a certain artist's ranking in the weekly stats.
