Hello again, if you do listen to my material, I must say that a large proportion of it is from the 1980's. Also, the Ibanez bass is going straight through the mixer without any processing!

Oh, sorry. When I mentioned the 'Line 6 POD' and the valve preamp I meant for them to possibly be used with your new rig, not D.I.'d into the PA! As you already know, you can get a fatter more rounded sound with valves, possibly a 'hybrid' amp will help.....Karl.

I didn't have enough room in the previous 'shout box'. Here are 2 links - Reverb Nation - http://www.reverbnation.com/manicsurge and Last FM - http://www.last.fm/music/MANIC+SURGE and my web site will be at 'manic surge.com'

Well, I suppose you've thought of using something like a 'Line 6 POD' simulator; they come in pocket sized format to large floor standing sizes, or a valve preamp for the blues band. I use a valve pre amp in my small home recording studio. I personally like valve amps for low to medium volume playing because I have active eq’s in my bass. When I use ‘Native Instruments Guitar Rig’ software, I use the Ampeg rig or a Roland JC120 head with a valve preamp, but I always have the “real” Behringer valve preamp in line. In the next couple of days I’m uploading my own web site, it has a library of my songs on it (20 to 40), one ‘rough’ video to start off with, and lots of other features. It’s only going to cost $140 US dollars a year! I also have profiles with ‘Last FM’ and ‘Reverb Nation’, on Last FM I have one very ‘rough’ video and about 40 incredibly old songs and with Reverb Nation I have about 15 old songs. Later this year I will have new songs to upload. I’m ‘rough’ but ready!....Karl

I'm acquainted with Galien Krueger, I used one once and they are an extremely famous name in bass amps like Ampeg, I havn't heard of the other models. What styles of music do you and your group play? Do you have group web site? I also noticed that you listen to the Australian guitarist Tommy Emmanuel, I didn't realise that he was known outside of our country.

Hi Ruben, how are you? I've acquired more 'Ellington' albums since I last wrote to you; more compilations and one from his repertoire. Yes my Ibanez has a straight through mahogany and maple neck going through a mahogany body; lots of sustain! That’s why I wouldn’t mind owning a Fender Precision as well. Although with the active eq’s and pre amp you can cut some of that sustain. My main Charvel/Jackson, a ‘Fusion” has great pickups and a great sound coming out of it; it’s great for a jazz sound, or a heavy rock sound. My other Charvel/Jackson, needs a new bridge pickup, it has a rough hard rock sound to it. What type of ‘rig’ setup have you narrowed things down to i.e. a transistor amp or more towards a valve amp, or a hybrid?....Karl.

Hello Ruben, I only have one compilation CD of his music so far, just 20 tracks, which I play as often as I can, I will get more of his albums! Overwater basses are supposed to be very, very good basses; are you having problems with the pick-ups? I still have my beautiful, neck thru body Ibanez Musician Bass. It has active pickups and eq's, with a 20db boost pre-amp. The only problem with it is that it can easily overdrive the pre-amp stage of bass amps and mixing desks. I would love to have a Fender Precision as well. Yes that is a Charvel/Jackson, I have two of them and a Session Strat, I have had Gibson Les Paul's and Fender Strats in the past but was not fully happy with either sound. The Charvell/Jackson is sort of a mixture of the two in sound, A couple of years ago I stopped using dedicated amps for the bass or guitar ( I have Fender valve amps for both), I now use "Native Instruments Guitar Rig" software through a computer! But at this stage only for recordings and practice.

About Me

I have been bouncing around on the meniscus of music for some time, from being a kiddie-punk drummer, to aspirant composer, to casual bassist.

Music seems to become more and more important to me as I grow older. I never thought that would be possible as I was tearing the cellophane from Closer in 1980, but it evidently is.
