I sadly have to admit that I'm not yet familiar with the John Passion as much as I'd like to. Most of the conductors did both of them, so I suspect it's going to be a similar territory. So I have an idea where to look (I'm definitely in the period instruments camp), but it's going to take some time to find the version where everything came together. I hope I can get to it in the near future and I can perhaps get back to you then. :)

That is a very good point, indeed that ...seductive quality of the Internet is very annoying. And Matthew requires and deserves ones full attention. Still, I hope that you have some idea which version to go with, because there are many and very different versions. Although with the sheer quality and beauty of it, it's almost impossible to do a bad version! I'll plug for the Herreweghe version from 1999. Oh, that's a very good reminder actually. I haven't felt 'cinematic' for about a year, so I largely avoided movies. But thinking about it now... I may be ready to go for it again (Kieślowski, Tarkovsky, Bresson, Ozu are the names that come to my mind immediately). So thank you.

Already seen three of his movies, Stalker, Solaris and The Mirror, he knows how to create a beautiful vibe indeed. I think I've visited your RYM account one time and you enjoyed some really artsy films so that's why I thought of asking you.

Help me out, please. I'm familiar with JSB compositions, but I'm looking for particular recordings. What are some that stand out head and shoulders above the rest? What do you recommend. I'm only familiar with those recordings and albums that one can find in the $1 bins.
