This is really hard. I just realized I've been on a depressing music binge for the past six years. Non-depressing albums I've been listening to: The Headlights - Kill Them with Kindness, The Go! Team - Thunder Lightning Strike, Of Montreal - Cherry Peel, Architecture in Helsinki - Fingers Crossed & In Case We Die, Belle & Sebastian - Dear Catastrophe Waitress, Beulah - When Your Heartstrings Break (not actually sad, and it has lots of horns and upbeat drums), The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I, M83 - Before the Dawn Heals Us (epic-sounding electronic), MGMT - Oracular Spectacular, Moonbabies - The Orange Billboard, Pavement - Crooked Rain, Phoenix - Alphabetical, Ratatat - Ratatat (instrumental), Stars - Set Yourself on Fire, The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?... And I've been listening the heck out of the first four songs on Heretic Pride by the Mountain Goats. That should get you started.
