No problem. Remember that whereas wristbands and badges do make it easier to move about amongst the official showcases in the evening (and if you venue-hop incessantly also a lot more affordable), many popular venues fill up eventually to where it's down to one-out/one-in and then you're often screwed with a wristband, because any badges in line will be admitted before you. I personally think a wristband makes a lot of sense if you don't necessarily gravitate to all the popular, big shows and like to bounce around all evening long with an open mind and a sense of adventure.

The Unofficial SXSW 2011 Schedule on sched.org aggregates a lot of the information about free SXSW shows and is very useful for quickly finding all the shows for a particular act. Showlistaustin.com has most of the same information, but might feature items not listed on the former. Many official showcase venues allow admission without a wristband or badge for between $10-$50 at the door (depending on venue size and popularity of lineup) but you need to pick your venues and showcases carefully, as not many of them allow re-entry and once they reach a certain percentage of capacity turn wristband and/or badge only. In other words, if you find a venue with an official showcase lineup that appeals to you, get there early (anytime before 8 would be playing it safe) and be prepared to hang out there until 2am to get your money's worth.
