that sounds very promising then, it's a big advantage if you have links within the industry who can arrange something for a week or two. It'll definitely help when you apply for a proper job. I think people undermine artists, and have this misconception that we do art because we're not capable of doing something 'academic'. I think some artists have a higher level of understanding the world around them than people who've gone onto be 'professionals' or doctors etc. But the art and design world is very hard to break into. All you can do is take every opportunity that's thrown at you and go out and make yourself known. Controversy is probably the easiest way to make people acknowledge you, but it's not always the best path.

i'm in exactly the same situation too. I've never had a job before, but i've done 2 work experiences, and 2 voluntary jobs, but because i've had no previous employment, employers won't give me a chance. And you're right, because we're artists, they don't really want to know. I've just filled in another application form stressing that although i've just finished an art course, skills i've learnt during that can be applied to any type of job. I mean, come on it can't take that much brain power to operate a till surely?! If no-one gives me a chance, i'll never find a job. I've applied to work at Mcdonald's as well, even though i can't stand the place :| all of my morals are flying out the window in order to find a job. Urg, i think most people generally hate us artists.

i'm on my summer holidays now too..well i say summer, it's bloody raining! i'm quite down as well. i really need a job, but every one i've applied to doesn't respond :| i'm starting to get really pissed off now. they send me a letter saying 'we'll get back to you' but they never do. Idiots. I suppose i could chase them up, but the jobs i've applied for aren't that great and i'm not overly keen on them. Are you getting paid to do this work experience? at the moment i'd jump at the chance to do anything art related, but i can see what you mean about it being quite bland. i'm wasting away my time watching past formula one races and Neighbours on youtube...i should really try harder to find a job :|

thank you :D i honestly think you'd make a fantastic illustrator. Your use of colour is great, that itself is enough to convey alot of emotion :) haha, i somewhat agree that art without strong emotion is quite weak, but i do like things that make you think and make people feel as if they have an emotional connection with it. I don't like pretty little landscapes of hills. That stuff seems abit cliché. I guess i use my artwork to say things i can't say verbally, being an introvert. It's great though because it's making use of all those pent up issues. I love doing things spontaneously. It seems more personal and raw than something that's been meticulously planned out. That diary i made was completely unplanned! haha yes i think chris does have a fear of being butt raped! Aww i should stop teasing him.

ahh i just find it amusing calling him gay :D it makes him squirm. By the way, your artwork is brilliant. I love the portraits you've done. that 'scream of pop' one is amazing. I'm more of a graphic designer/illustrator. Here's my deviantart : http://girl-lard.deviantart.com/ :)
