I pick my music song by song, not by artist. As a result, my collection contains many artists of different genres, but generally only a couple songs for each artist. So my top artists section is really who sings the songs that I've played 100+ times. I also usually find awesome and original melodies of more importance than clever lyrics. Unless the lyrics tell a story.
