Tom Waits...well, he is one of my all time evergreen favourites. One cannot get enough of him... :)

I agree with you. It really sounds like a Josh Homme album. I don't feel the influence of Dave Grohl or John Paul Jones. It's a good album but not excellent, I preferred Era Vulgaris.
