    no competition: Jimmy Page

No offense to Angus, who is lead of possibly the best dual guitar attack ever, but Page pioneered multiple techniques/riffs that are copied by thousands today. Sorry but Slash and Angus shouldnt be compared to Page...at all.

David Gilmour, 'cause that guitar always sounds amazing. Check out Shine On Your Crazy Diamond, it just explains for itself.

Mark Knopfler should make your list. I see you've been listening to some Dire Straits too.

I'd recommend adding Robert Fripp of King Crimson. His guitar work is generally otherworldly and out there, but the way he puts it all together is simply incredible.

Also, why isn't Eddie Van Halen on this list? He helped define shredding, and has been a (if not THE) main influence for metal guitarists since the late 70's.

First to your question: Yes, B.B. King is that good, he's absolutely top. If you want to listen to more of his songs, I'll recommend listening to KOQX Blues Radio, they're always playing quite a lot of B.B. King.
But Eric Clapton on a top list? OK, he's sort of decent guitarist, but that's it. Skilled, but monotonous and lacking soul, IMHO definitely overrated.
Instead, I'd add Elmore James to the list - he wasn't nicknamed the King of Slide Guitar for nothing; although the recordings are quite old, his style still rocks, one shouldn't underestimate the great artists of the past only because granddad already liked their music...
And not to forget about Johnny Winter, who's IMHO the best guitar player alive, be it blues guitar (his style of playing slide guitar is simply awesome) or rock guitar. Can't think of anyone to compare with his elaborate, but passionate style and godlike speed & I've listened to music by everyone named on the list...
And Stevie Ray Vaughan should be on that list as well, he was an excellent guitarist too, very skilled and soulful. Although he only did few recordings due to his early death, they're among the best there ever were - I recommend to give the Couldn't Stand The Weather album a try, you'll hear for yourself...
Another great guitar player, who should be on such a list, would be Jeff Healey, whose guitarplay is really stunning. He's really worth listening to...
Among the younger artists, Aynsley Lister should be on such a list as well - saw him live just recently & he's amazingly good, playing both blues and rock style & I dare say, atm he's surpassed only by Johnny Winter and B.B. King. He may not be a celebrity like Keith Richards, but we're talking about quality, aren't we?
    ...just my 2 cent...

    @TrueSteel

Eric Clapton is a decent guitarist just as Michael Jordon was a handy basketballer. Saying he is lacking soul is a big call.

Duane Allman deserves a mention here.

I think Rolling Stone's top 100 began with Hendrix, Duane Allman, BB King, Clapton, Robert Johnson.

Also Yngwie Malmsteen and Randy Rhoads should be mentioned.Malmsteen is probably the fastest and Rhoads has great songs and solos like Mr Crowley and Crazy Train.

Yngwie is probably too fast for his own good, and never seems to slow down. Oh and where's Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, Paul Gilbert, Neil Zaza, John 5, Mattias Eklundh, Ron Thal (aka Bumblefoot) and Buckethead? no best guitarist ever list would be complete without throwing in a few of those guys, surely

Oh yeah and Ritchie Blackmore, of course. Because he was damn good and did the whole neo-classical thing years before Yngwie.

Have you noticed how incredibly similar Blackmore's and Malmsteen's guitars are too? White Fender Strat's with scalloped fretboard...

Hmm. Petrucci is not in that list, Kurt Cobain and Jack White are way too high up, and John McLoughlin is way too far down. Therefore I have lost all respect for the Rolling Stone magazine.

Funny hjow no one's mentioned Zakk Wylde yet...Mustaine is also pretty good...check out my Guitar Gods journal, though most have been mentioned here already...
