  • Musical Diversity Calculator

    24 Jun 2007, 16:10

    AEP for gyzar is: 4.31.

    I`m soooooo cool:)

Wanna know how diverse are your music tastes?

AEP is a measure of how diverse your music tastes are, based on the top 50 artists in your Last.fm profile. It was invented by C26000 and you can find full details about how it is computed here. AEP is a number, usually below 5. Roughly speaking, if it is greater than 4 you have very diverse taste in music, if it greater than 3 then you have fairly diverse taste in music. At the other end of the scale, if it is less that 0, you are probably an obsessive fan of your top artist.

So, you can take your test here.

P.S.: Past your results (in a comment!).

  • Tv On The Radio; stunning in their diversity ...

    22 May 2007, 13:42

TV on the Radio is a creative quintet, known for being wide open to all musical genres. Yesterday I was told about their goth-art-fag-industrial moment, checked out the following video and was absolutely amazed.
Peter Murhpy (Bauhaus) and Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) joined them for Dreams.

    Marvelous, ha?

    P.S.:
I think this is just the right moment/place to make my list of covers even longer: TVotR covered Pixies` Mr Grieves (altough you might all know it - since it`s not a bizarre beside but was released on the Young Liars EP). However, if you haven`t heard it yet, but like what this band does, it`s a must have. Pixies a cappella sound just awesome!
  • Hanne Hukkelberg @ Cankarjev dom, LJ

    17 May 2007, 16:24

Tue 15 May – Hanne Hukkelberg
I`m a little late with writing this, but I really couldn`t do it before, because I was freaking busy last days. The date of Hanne Hukkelberg`s gig in Slovenia could not be worse for me - I did not manage to come to LJ any sooner than ten minutes before the beginning of the act. I`m saying this because it is kinda related with my feelings about the concert; Hanne quickly made me forget the-bad-mood-I-was-in and it was like a proof of her power supreme. CD was full of funny emotions and I could say that I`ve never been on a concert of a band with such an adorable attitude (no matter how teenage does this sound!).

If I had to tag yesterday`s concert, I would say that it was sweet, (too) short and slightly experimental.
Hanne brought a bike on the stage and used it as a sort of percussion; the drummer Jonas had his most interesting moments on The Northwind with writing machine; Line, the other female member of the band, plays flute, tuba and castagnettes, but has still impressed me the most with her voice (she sings almost as great as Hanne does, her best moment was The Kinks` cover in my opinion); Erik gave the music some noisy-guitar jamming inputs (which were so marvelous that have actually reminded me of Sonic Youth) and also played so called lap steel guitar in a few songs. Members of Hanne Hukkelberg`s band all play more than one instrument and Kare was also not an exception: he played electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboards and accordeon. The band opened the show with a few songs from their debut Little things and then continued with songs from Rykestrasse 68. I think that the feedback the band got yesterday, was quite all-right. Even tough that Linhartova dvorana was only half full, the band seemed to be content with the crowd which was not hiding its amazement.
The band coloured the end of the evening with two brilliant covers - Pixies` Break my body and The Kinks` All day and all of the night.
What to add? It`s not only great musical skills but also incredibly lovable behaviour what makes Hanne Hukkelberg a potential "mainstream" queen; since even comparisons with Bjork don`t appear to be over-excited, we should know that we are dealing with one of the greatest musicians of the future!
  • Arctic Monkeys, my favourite worst nightmare

    11 May 2007, 09:24

I never knew what exactly I feel about Arctic Monkeys. I`ve said so many contradictable things about them, that people who don`t know me well must think that I`m a dumbass. I think it`s time to analyse my love-hate relationship with this band ...
Their debut was a phenomenom, everyone knows that. I bet that you look goood on the dancefloor was a masterpiece, the greatest hit in last decade, I think you all agree with that. Other songs on Whatever people say I am, that`s what I am not weren`t that good, though they were not bad at all.
Arctic Monkeys were the main reason why I attended Fm4 Frequency `06 and that`s where they dissapointed me - a big time. The show was really nothing special, it gave me a feeling that I`m listening to some talented locals`, not to the band, who released the best rock album of the year. All the band`s members looked like some plants on the stage - it was definitely the most boring act of the two-day festival.
When I came home I didn`t even think of listening their debut, I wass still pissed at them. I thought that`s where my AM-thing ends, but ...
I could not help myself downloading Favourite worst nightmare and ... I must admit that I freaking like it. It contains some awesome songs: Balaclava, Do me a favour, Flourescent Adolescent and SOS seem to be my favourites. Those songs are proofs that Arctic Monkeys are more than just a band of one dancefloor filler (like a band with similiar name - The Monkees with their I`m a believer for example).

Now I want you to tell me what do you think about the new album and also about the band (are they overrated or do they really do something special)? Is the story of their success similar to Nirvana`s (though it came much more quickly)?
