I would say west/northwest is the best. Take cta to Damen in Blue line and you'll be in Wicker Park ( hipsterland ) or Belmont in Brown line step down and start walking. Both are lively during day and night. The concert will take place in Lawrence station. This is in Red line north, the neighborhood is Uptown and a walk over there is also worth it. Don't forget to visit also the city center and the loop.You can walk throught the big Michigan Avenue, where the Apple Store is. I saw Nick Cave around there just 2 weeks ago! Enjoy your trip and the gig.
