Hey, I saw your post on Built to Spill and figured you might be interested in hearing some of Brett Netson's solo stuff, which is apparently only available on a blog run by one of the dudes who works at the local record shop here in Boise, who also happens to be writing the liner notes for the forthcoming album. So... uh... enjoy. http://jpo1960.tumblr.com/post/3903071203 and http://jpo1960.tumblr.com/post/3942339545

About Me

I am lucky enough to front a band called August Actually, with 5 of my favourite people - all of whom are infinitely more talented musicians than I. We formed to play a show supporting The Wave Pictures in May. Since then we have done 16 shows, supporting the likes of Darren Hayman, Bearsuit, MJ Hibbett & the Validators, Standard Fare, and Evans the Death, across 5 cities. We also got to play the legendary Damn You! Christmas Covers party and released our debut EP on House VS Home records. In 2012 we intend to release our debut album, and play a whole bunch more shows in a whole bunch more cities!

I also have a solo alias, Hannibal Hamster, from which August Actually spawned. The songs for this project are generally sillier. Laura from August Actually sometimes plays live shows with me under this name.

I used to play keyboard and be deputy-frontman in a band called Japanese Sleepers. We released an EP with Thee SPC, and supported a whole bunch of great bands including The Wave Pictures, Standard Fare, The Rocky Nest, The School, Poppy & Friends and Horowitz.

Occasionally (i.e. when he's not in South Korea), I play keyboard on a few live tracks for my dear friend Hawks and Other Birds. I also sometimes play banjo live with my good friends Heroes of the Mexican Independence Movement, and have done the same with Robert George Saull. Once I was allowed to play keyboards with Red Shoe Diaries, and at Christmas Covers 2011 Burly Nagasaki invited me to join them for a song, too!

I've also appeared onstage alongside The Flaming Lips (dressed as a yeti), The Loves (playing the role of Jesus' answerphone) and MJ Hibbett (playing the role of a civilian onlooker during a robot space invasion).
