My personal faves are early and mid-70s stuff by players such as Terumasa Hino, Kosuke Mine, Motohiko Hino, Masabumi Kikuchi etc. - basically, anything on the Three Blind Mice label, which used to be really hard to get but a lot is currently being rereleased on CD and is available elsewhere. For free & "out there" jazz, Yosuke is the king for me, but Masayuki Takayanagi on guitar (and his different bands - New Direction for the Arts, Second Concept etc), Masahiko Togashi, and Yoshihide Otomo more recently are all very interesting. I'm sure you may have heard of some of those already, but there is a lot of good stuff out there that most people have never heard of. Have fun exploring! Matthew
