A single person band that takes its name from a Chinese television series about a boy and his trees would almost have to be precious, and to be certain, chimneycrow is precious. Tom Gu, publicly known as the chimneycrow, is a music blog group runner who has fundenmental influences in China's IMAO (Independent Music Appreciation Orgnization). This handsome man is full of justice and humour. Born in Beijing on......, he had a ordinary childhood like everyone else aroud him, but at the age of 15 Tom demenstrated extroordinary interest in rock 'n role during the end of Dakou movement which led to awake of Chinese rock 'n role. After some years thorough consideration and preperation, in 200(2) he made the decision to produce his own music under a tree in front of several friends.

The idiosyncratic approach to building Tom's music career isn't surprising. A longtime fan of Mr.Muxia (yongli), Tom left Beijing for Hong Kong in the early 2000s in hopes of finding a good career, he enrolled in university and he began study Economics. However, while at school, he took a music course where he decided to form a band and begin to release record via internet for his Music! project. In 2006, chimneycrow released his first single in Hong Kong against the peak of the super girls movement in the mainland. After the release, some critics in Pingxiang's music weeklies rated his first single at 89(out of 100) and at the same time the bitchfuckmedia in the city of Dufake rated it at 6.4. As commented by a famous reviewer in China, Baixue, "Tom's new single is a fantastic mixture of ambient and indie pop, full of Tom's premal love of trees.....".
