RECORD LABEL for Wax Tailor & Lotek.... more soon
from the (under)ground up
[Melbourne, Australia and Tokyo, Japan]

The Blend Corporation (blend corp.) commenced operation in 2006 and was born from an obsessive compulsion towards music. The concept began as an idea, developed into a radio show (tHE bLEND on PBS 106.7FM) and has now become a label.

The title of the company is derived from two things. Firstly, The Blend is the name of a track from The Herbaliser, featuring What What (now Jean Grae) on the Ninja Tune label. This track reawakened a previously dormant love for hip hop. The world is flooded with what a lot of people confuse for hip hop - rap. This is largely thanks to the major labels that have ruined many a genre of music in the past. There are so many styles of hip hop and a style to suit all - there is hip hop for everyone. blend corp. aims to bring some of those styles of hip hop to light. Keeping with the blend part of our name, we will be releasing styles other than hip hop, however, hip hop will remain the heart and soul of the label. For obvious reasons hip hop remains the best medium to communicate with the audience - hip hop has the strongest voice.

Secondly, the word corporation in our moniker is a reference to the increasingly corporate owned world we now find ourselves a part of. Individuals like Noam Chomsky reawakened a rebel heart and opened our eyes to this trend. Unfortunately the media has also fallen pray to non-independent corporate ownership. There is so much high quality real music that does not get an audience in this dry corporately owned media landscape. Increasingly, music is merely recycled and refreshed with a new face. blend corp. releases music with a message: think, listen, observe, question... act. In this so-called global economy independent media outlets are a rarity and it is increasingly important to question what you hear and to be informed.

Our first signing is a French hip hop producer by the name of Wax Tailor. Wax is the perfect artists to help launch the label as his music completely reflects what the label is all about - real music with a message. This is our corporate mandate or charter.

Thanks for listening
