About Me

I'm currently in the fourth year of studying Software Engineering at the University of Sheffield. I come from Chesterfield, and before that the Hope Valley, and before that Southend-on-Sea. There's hardly a moment when I'm ever not listening to some music, or trying to find yet more artists to listen to!



Music Tastes

My music tastes are pretty hard to describe, as I like quite a variety of different genres, and often my tastes are eclectic and rapidly changing. Quite often I will be stuck with just a certain type of music or even just a single band; but then I'll get bored and suddenly decide to listen to something else. Music is an important part of my life, and I'm pretty much always listening to something or another.

My Last.fm profile goes back over five years now, and I'm quite often ashamed of what reached my top 30 artists back in the day - some of the very highest artists are in there as I was still finding my tastes and I was simply listening to a very small selection of artists. Now I listen to a lot more, but I have no "favourite artist" that bumps up to the top of the charts. Still, apart from the overall charts, the 3/6/12 month charts are much closer to what I actually enjoy listening to.

I often find I discover music in the strangest of places, but I'm also fairly experimental with seeking out new artists. Sometimes it works like a charm and I'll have a new favourite; sometimes I'll rediscover something I was never interested in the first time around. I'm fairly open about my particular preferences but I do still have an obvious place where I can draw the line between good music and nonsense, but you can probably work that out for yourselves looking at my profile.
