Thanks for the tips Paulie, i'll go back to some earlier Yes and try again. Maybe it's a band that's just not for me, but i'll keep trying and see how i go. No, i don't have Super Nova (been thinking of getting it though) and haven't heard the other ones at all, so still some Shorter explorations to go for me too!

how do you get on with 'Close To The Edge', Paulie? I tried to listen to it all the way through a while ago, hoping to connect to it, but it just didn't click with me. Not sure where to go next with Yes, coz that one's supposed to be one of the best.... No probs with Wayne Shorter though :-) I might give him a spin tonight as well!

Yes, Charisma is one of the more recent ones i've gotten, and Morgan made so many other great albums that i tend to forget it a bit. And re: the Wolf, the early rock and roll element is definitely a huge part of its appeal for sure. The part that Sam Phillips played in those early cuts was really important and set the standard for the sonic qualities like using echo and reverb, but that unique style Wolf had was all his, and that dirty, juiced-up small band blues feel was incredibly influencial looking back now. Wonderful stuff.

I'll have to give Charisma a spin again soon too, Paulie, haven't played it in a while. Duke Pearson's influence was all over that one if memory serves, some good stuff, and with a front line of Morgan, Mobley and McLean you can't go wrong. Man, I'm still digging through the first 2 discs of Smokestack Lightning, a bounty so far and 2 discs to go! Loving it.

Disc 1 sounded MIGHTY fine last night, Paulie, mighty fine... and still got 3 more to savour. :-) You're in for some treats man.

And re. 'The All Seeing Eye', give it time, for sure. Come back to it in a year and see what you think then, or maybe when you're in a different mood to when you remember last time. It certainly has its good points - 'Chaos' being first amongst them for me, what a burning little gem that track is - but this album's charms are just not as immediate and instantly satisfying as some of his other classics.

Yep, True Blue is fab indeed. Ah, the Hubb - arguably THE greatest all-round trumpet player jazz has ever seen, and yet he's still not my fave trumpeter... music's a funny old thing isn't it. :-)

I see you two are talking about Shorter. The other day I picked up a book on him ("Footprints" by Michelle Mercer). I've been on a Weather Report kick, so it was a perfect find.
