damaged was certainly a good record, but i think the best starting point for Black Flag would be "The First Four Years" which is basically everything they recorded with their first three singers. It's "Nervous Breakdown" , "Jealous Again" and some compilation tracks they did.

Hi Waffles. Are you still interested in surf rock? I stumbled across Davie Allen in my library and I'd sorta forgotten about him. Might be something you'd like. Might be listed under Davie Allen and the Arrows. It is 60's motorcycle movie music.

Noisy pop, that isn't shoegaze, huh? Well, here's some rec's, but I don't know how JAMC they are... If you've already tried these, especially if you tried them and you hate them, forgive me... The Raveonettes, Liars, The Twilight Sad, Shocking Pinks, Autolux (borders on shoegaze) and the noisier Yo La Tengo (like Cherry Chapstick). All of the above make noise, but have up front vocals. And if you can withstand the hype machine and want something pretty damn pop, try Glasvegas. **winces in expectation of being bonked on the head** :) You might also like Wooden Sjhips, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, A Place to Bury Strangers and/or Altlas Sound.

Oh yeah, I nearly forgot. I was also going to suggest Man or Astro-Man? for more modern, punked up surf rock. :)

Howdy. Don't know if you were turned off the old surf stuff cuz of the production quality or if it is just not quite the thing. If it is the former, check out some of Dick Dale's more recent stuff. He shreds it up and he is classic surf, but the recordings are soooooo much better. Try Tribal Thunder from the 90's. Very Pulp Fiction. :) - The Tea Lady @ MAC
