this is the truly annoying part. i did nothing. no new software was installed, nothing was upgraded or changed. i listened on friday morning, went home and when i came back monday morning it was not working. as far as i can remember it didn't even install any automatic updates for windows on the friday. baffling:(

i'm back! i too scared to do a system restore by myself. had to once do one on the home computer and got someone in to do it for me. i didn't know firefox needed plugins initially, but figured it out along the way and also realised that it didn't help. i think my problem lies somewhere in the internet connection. i did a trace route on the work and home pcs. the home one jumps through johannesburg to london to last fm. the work one doesn't seem to go anywhere. unfortunately this knowledge is not helpful as i don't know what to do further. the last fm staff just keeps on telling me it's the firewall preventing the connection, but i have a warning everytime i switch my machine on telling me my windows firewall is off and no other firewall can be detected. do firewalls go by names other than firewalls?

you certainly can't go wrong with jazz piano. a favourite i discovered this year is chet baker. his artist radio is also very nice and a monday staple. i think my problem with stanley kubrick might be - for lack of a better word - his style. i would be watching a perfectly good movie, but for some reason i can't lay my finger on dislike it. more times than not it's either stanley kubrick or roman polanski. just don't like their stuff. on the other end are people like besson and tarantino. now they can do no wrong in my book - even when it's not their best work. thankfully last fm still works on my home computer. i'll give your suggestions a whirl at work when i have a chance. i really am not any good at computers, but i'm quite good at following instructions. i'm one of only a handful of people in the world who actually read the manuals they give you when you purchase appliances and gadgets:)

you don't get jazz, but you get 2001 a space odyssey?!?!? i've tried and tried but mr kubrick is just so way above my head i decided to rather put some jazz on:))

hallo hallo. thanks for the message. does make me feel a bit better that someone with computer skills also get stuck over here. i got the distinct impression that the people who do post replies in the support threads don't know all that much more than i do. it might also be my english. i'm not a first language english speaker so maybe they keep on telling me to switch off my firewall because they don't understand my response - my firewall is switched off. i think i'm using the wrong english words to convey the sentiment;) hang in there though. when it does work it is the better choice available - in south africa anyway.

Well...You give your rare vinyl away and I collect it now... Maybe,it is about 6000 records now,and out of this 2000 12"s...I love that stuff by heart, and I really am happy about new wave/post punk stuff coming from UK,or Belgium/Netherlands,because at that time that genre was so underrated, you know?
