Christmas in July
26 Oct 2009, 15:14
Was just talking about Christmas music on Facebook and wanted to add one of my posts to my journal here:
Pah... I listen to Christmas music in July. ANY time is a good time for Christmas music! As long as it's Christmas music worth listening to. Problem is, much of it is disposable junk that's just a money grab by a band ("Christmas with the Jets", I'm looking at you!) and I think the white noise gives the good stuff a bad name. In general I'm not much for the cynical anti-Christmas tracks either (well, OK, except "
Christmas At Ground Zero" from "Weird Al" Yankovic...) but I'm always up for a Christmas song about Jesus, and hey, the world could probably use a lot more songs about "the Christmas spirit" (which basically amounts to "be nice to each other") anyway. If it takes a fat guy in a fuzzy suit to get us to treat each other kindly, give to the poor, spent time with family, etc. then bring on the fat guy, AND his jingle bells. For the record, just so nobody will think I'm a Grinch about Christmas parody... one of my most treasured Christmas CDs is Bob Rivers' I Am Santa Claus. Actually, there will be a strangely bittersweet quality to the track "Grahbe Yahbalz (like Michael Jackson)" this season. You can only explain so much in a post on Facebook. :)
