    Wow, Andrew Bird, Dan Mangan, St. Vincent, Sufjan Stevens... It fascinates me.

    Yeah I think I'm pretty screwed with that haha, my parents don't really like music, but when they do play something it's like really generic soft rock. It's scarred me for life! And I wanted to join band in school to learn to play something but I wasn't allowed to because it was at the same time as advanced maths and I was told maths is more important, though I'm not at all seeing it, I'm never going to use that again. But enough complaining! I'm going to settle for learning piano and memorising a few little songs, that'll be good enough. Aww, I didn't know you sing too =D D'you think you'd ever pursue a career in music? You talk so much about it and seem to know lots, I can't see why you couldn't! x

    You know, sometimes I'm so jealous of you! I wish I had the slightest bit of musical talent, it'd make me so happy. To me being able to write down songs by ear is basically magic xD I have to hear a tune a billion times and then have the sheet music to play it, it got really annoying, I gave up on it. And I don't know a thing about guitars, but Hummingbird is such a pretty name for one <3 Do you have any recordings of yourself playing?

    Oh yeah, I completely agree with you on the classical, I don't like that huge orchestral sound very much, I'd listen to more classical if it were simpler arrangements. It's so hard to find good ones! But yeah, just like violin and piano are perfect <3 Emilie Autumn has an amazing classical album called Laced/Unlaced where it's just her and a violin, I love it. I'm also kind of a sucker for classical crossover, where they use like electronic beats in the background hehe, like Bond or Escala. Aww, I'll bet you'll be good at violin! I knew someone who played violin first and then tried guitar and she thought violin was much easier, but you never know. I think anyone who plays violin is amazing =D Yeah, miscommunications suck, I always have to make sure of the time like a thousand times otherwise I panic about it lol. I love that you have all these plans though, I'm really excited for you! Oh, and happy new years to you too dear x

    Ohhh I love cafes! It's the perfect atmosphere. Gigs are wonderful too because you've already got the most important thing out of the way: music taste =) Well that's good you're starting uni soon, I'm sure you certainly shall meet some more people with your interests! My friend was trying to push me to go to the bar with her today, she was like c'mon you'll meet more people, and I was like noooo I don't want to know more people who want to go to the bar xD Luckily we have other things in common though. Anyway, yeah, I actually reallyreally like classical music so I dunno if you'll change your mind with red shoes, but it's actually my favourite thing he's done ^^;

    Yeah, Shampoo is one of the better ones. Along with 'While You Were Sleeping' from his first cd. I don't really think any of his stuff is essential listening, but if you ever have the opportunity to see him live do. His band rotates between around 15 instruments.

    Aww, we can be friends when I move there one day =) I don't do any of that crap either, it makes me uncomfortable. I'm still a virgin too, and proud of it! That's the only thing I don't like about my friends, well they aren't nearly as bad as all that, but they still do like to go out a lot and they always seem to be with a different guy, but then two of them are borderline so I guess they can't really help it lol. But yeah I feel totally out of place when they start talking about that stuff, I just like to hang out and talk/be silly, I don't like going to bars or clubs or anything. As for Mr. Bird, I do have the Ballad of the Red Shoes ep, it's soooo pretty, I love his instrumental violin stuff, that Useless Creatures one is really nice too. I'll have to look through some more eps though, I like the sound of acoustic versions =)

    Hehehehe you're so great xD Well some mainstream music is okay I think, but it makes it that much more special when you have to dig a bit to find it. But only if you do find it yeah haha, because then it's annoying! There's a few albums I don't think I'll ever be able to find and you can't even buy them anymore. Yeah I dunno, I only listened to Eggs briefly but it seemed different to his others, more rockish which I didn't like so much, I like him best when he's all acoustic guitar and violin with that lovely croon. But yeah Weather Systems is really good! I think I was working my way backwards from Noble Beast, that's why I stopped at Eggs and didn't look further, silly me. Waaah, I'm depressed again already, I want to go visiting ;_; and I just did yesterday. I love visiting Rose because she gives me a bunch of old clothes heheh, she's really picky and gets tired of things quickly so I get all sorts of lovely things. I was wearing a pink and white striped shirt and she gave me this

    For me the Daytrotter version comes across as very raw & natural and his emotions seem genuine. Plus it was a solo performance and very much a live one...Bird is best live :p With the DWTN recording I suspect he over-thought the thing perhaps. It sems a little contrived as in, "I'm going to try to make this sound as haunting and sorrowful as possible," and as a result it sounds more forced and formulistic. This was for an official release so he had to keep himself toned down a bit plus he had his band playing with him and they act as a balancing effect to stop him going too OTT!
