5-28-07 - A change of "About Me" ramblings seems to be much-needed. Anyway, I am first and foremost a fan of music, not genres or artists. Granted, there will be many genres that encompass music that I like more than other genres (these favorite genres being symphonic, gothic, and power metal; soundtracks; and Celtic/new age/world/ambient). Also granted, there will be some artists whose music I'm drawn to more than others.
That said, I really don't like following music stereotypes. Yes, I like a lot of music that falls in the metal category. Yes, my favorite band is Nightwish. But no, I do not like nearly all metal I hear (far from it) and don't even like everything I hear in the symphonic or female-fronted genres. No, I do not like every song Nightwish has ever recorded.
Yes, sometimes I find myself in moods where I feel like listening to trance bands like Cascada, or relatively vapid but fun pop artists like Michelle Branch or Delta Goodrem. Yes, I like a couple tracks by Christina Aguilera, but does that mean I listen to anything else by her and consider myself a fan? No. Yes, sometimes at 3 AM I don't want to listen to anything too heavy and pianists such as George Davidson, Michael Dulin, & Jon Schmidt rocket to the top of my charts.
I have eclectic taste. I try to give everything a chance. Singers who can belt out a tune rather than screeching, whining, or grunting it stand more of a chance of becoming favorite artists of mine, but it's not a hard and fast rule. Besides, I like a lot of instrumental stuff :-P
However, I like most things Tuomas Holopainen has written just because he's a genius. He's gorgeous, too, but that's mostly irrelevant :)
