And yes, I'm mostly focusing on heavy metal, because heavy metal is the, let's call it the 'father' of all other metal genres. I believe that heavy metal is where it started for all other metalgenres. I'm definitely including the other subgenres but that's just one chapter of the whole history of (heavy) metal. I'll take a look at those books, because I've found that these musical subcultures and the whole system around them interest me a lot. :)

Ever since I discovered the huge amount of music that exists in the world I've listened to just about every big genre I know of. About a year ago I started really getting into (mostly heavy) metal. I still appreciate all other music I've ever listened to but I definitely prefer metal/hard rock. And maybe my profile isn't the most transparant information to look at, since I've got a pretty decent vinyl records-collection, my Last.fm profile is not complete. And honestly, I think that hard rock and heavy metal are quite similar in terms of music and attitude. Anyway, I think that because I've seen so many different subcultures from both sides it's easier to describe the metal music and subculture as it is. I also think I've been 'inside' the metal culture enough to describe it properly, and the books I've read helped a lot, of course. Anyway, thanks for your help! I appreciate it :)
