akarra I can safely say that all I can talk about is school, so I probably am not exempt from my own critique.

I would imagine your situation re. "being social and being isolated" isn't what I mean. I know two people who are teachers who cannot converse with anyone else about anything. It's pretty much "complain about work" followed by "make up stories about what they think their friends are up to."

Wikipedia's article on fashion - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_fashion_design - does not cite anything. Hmm. I checked Amazon. There's an "Oxford History of Art" that is by one Christopher Breward, focused on "Fashion" (I think that's the title, actually). Probably worth a look.
