Intriguing indeed! I'm going to check out those two Cracknell solo albums soon and I'll tell you if I love her solo albums or not. Probably will! I really liked the "anywhere" single & video. Just the same as you, I wasn't really tnhat impressed with their single "tonight" when it dropped but I still had high hopes for a decent album, and that's exactly what we have here for sure! Words & music is incredibly good! Maybe one weak track, that's it. it kind of reminds me of their Tiger Bay period, but much more dance. I'm not really a big fan of dance but St Etienne put the genera to very good use!

Ha! I completely changed my mind about Saint Etienne's words & music. For some reason on Npr, the first listen of Words & music was inserted with some autotune, but on the deluxe version that I just got, there was no autotune to be found. Therefore, I was able to fully focus on the album and truly enjoy it right. I wonder why Npr did that? Or maybe the regular album version still has the autotune crap on it?

By box set, are you referring to the deluxe version of words and music? I'd say get it, since the bonus material on their previous album was much better than the regular album tracks. The same probably would apply here. I think you still have a chance to hear the whole album on npr, so here you go - http://www.npr.org/2012/05/20/151711015/first-listen-saint-etienne-words-and-music-by-saint-etienne - Tell me what you think of the new album. I'd love to hear your perception. Good idea for me to check out Sarah's solo material at this point. I will do that soon. Thanks for the reminder. :-)

I heard St Etienne's new album on Npr a few days ago. I was very disappointed. Weak vocals, autotune insertions, most of the album was just dance tracks with not enough interesting melodies. Maybe (just like with my previous St Etienne album listenings) on repeated listenings, I'll come to like the new album more but I don't feel so hopeful right now. I think St Etienne could have made a much better album but for some reason, they didn't won't to this time. Maybe the bonus material on the deluxe will be much better. (just as it was with The tales from the turnpike album)

Must be the drastic transition from Kim's awesome new wave pop sound to her more simple approach to adult comtemp pop sound that turned me off so much. Now going back to hear a few of these tracks again on Another step, I have to say that they aren't all bad. I like "Brothers". Cool track. I think that you summed it up quite nicely here "Kim is always at her best when she's telling a little story" When the story is always about the same thing on every song in her later material (sex, love relationship frost or the blues) I tend to get bored, since then the composition and production gets too subtle to express the songs subject.

I like Schoolgirl, good song. Most of Another step was unbearable for me though.. Look at this, Kim doing Cambodia live with a orchestra in 2008 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhHGXFItEHE&feature=related Kim's put on some weight but she still looks gorgeous ans sings well ofc.

Heart over mine is okay. I seem to like Kim Wilde's later "funkier" tracks better that have a cool groove, like hey mister heartache.

Oh I didn't mean to imply that Kim's 90s material was being produced for the teen pop craze. I just meant that Kim Wilde is a more creditable artist, even with her later material than Spears is. Who was a joke wannabe singer/artist from the start. See this song "time" does nothing for me, at all. I'd rather just listen to Kylie for this type of mature mainstream pop music and I don't even really care for Kylie's music. I just like Kim Wilde's early 80s material. When I sampled "Love is" it did have a nice sound though. So I think I'd still check out that album. Do you have another KW album like Love is to recommend?
