It's because of that that many think the simpler music has more feelings, I respect that although I don't agree with it. I think albums like Death's Human or King Crimson's Red are very powerful and emotional, yet very complex and technical. Of course when talking about feelings and emotions, what you connect to on that level can be different for everyone, and different people find it on different aspects of music.

However, what I don't like is people thinking pop equals bad, besides, having pop elements doesn't have to be a bad thing, most of the times nice hooks and good compositions are more important than technicality or complexity, for example, I think Dream Theater's Falling Into Infinity is one of their best albums, but most fans don't like it because it's "poppish" or because it doesn't have 100 solos per song. Also, I believe not everything has to be revolutionary, sometimes a nice catchy tune is good enough for me.
