Ha! That's actually me playing a recording of Hamlet for my English class. My work computer scrobbles, and Shakespeare is listed as the artist. I'm not even sure who the performers are -- I think I downloaded it as a free podcast somewhere.

:D He's one of my favourite writers, really, comedic or otherwise. He's just so awesome. I am so jealous you saw him live!

Idk if you've heard, but Born Ruffians, Said the Whale and Tokyo PC is playing a holiday show in toronto. Didn't wanna be a tease, but it'd be legendary. and read somewhere, they're serving gingerbread cookies and cider. so canadian!

A guy at work last night asked me if I had ever heard of TMBG :) I told him my favorite album was flood, and sang the theme song to him :)

Mmmm Mountain Goats live is a delicious, excellent thing. Also, Lincoln and John Henry are both great, when I'm in the mood for some TMBG songs I so often go for John Henry tracks, stuff like A Self Called Nowhere and End of the Tour just completely blows me away. And I mean, Lincoln starts and ends so exquisitely, with Ana NG and Kiss Me, Son of God... especially Ana NG, which I think has some of the most brilliant, affecting lyrics I've ever heard. Plus there are classics in between, like the gleefully eery Where Your Eyes Don't Go and heartbreaking They'll Need a Crane. They're such an original and creative band, I'm so grateful to have found them. I can't believe how many people criticize The Else for being too "normal". There isn't a song on there (well... aside from the catchy but sort of generic Take Out the Trash) that doesn't have TMBG written all over it. Yes, it's different, but it retains TMBG's INTELLIGENCE in songwriting. I'm Impressed and Climbing the Walls are classics.

Also, one of your top-played TMBG songs I have never heard before?? :O (No Answer)

Tallahassee is sooo good, and was my first Goats album! I've been obsessed with concept albums ever since I was 17 and started listening to Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, and The Sunset Tree and Tallahassee are so brilliant not just because every song is awesome, but because every song is different but all part of the same narrative. And yes, I mean, I heard them saying they were doing an album more akin to their early work, but I didn't anticipate it sounding like it came out in 1989 or so. I mean, some of my friends aren't really into their first couple albums beyond the singles (which I can sort of understand and entirely don't understand at the same time... but personally, stuff like The Else and John Henry got more plays from me. I think it says a lot about the kind of band TMBG are that their fanbase is so divided on what albums are best, but personally, honestly, among their 'adult' albums there is not one that I haven't been obsessed with at one point or other :)

Alright, I shall divide my responses numerically: 1) Tally Hall live sounds astonishingly excellent. Twice in one week? You might die from happiness overload! Which is how I hope today, one day. 2) I am listening to Join Us for the first time now, and enjoying it MUCHLY. Although... I will say it is WEIRD listening to a whole album of TMBG songs and not knowing all the lyrics already. But I was slightly terrified to listen to it because I was all "ahhh what if I don't like it and then my 17-year-old self is upset with me?" but that was silly and I was wrong to think it. 3) The Sunset Tree is my favourite album of all time. I mean, there are a lot of albums I love, and Mountain Goats are pretty consistently brilliant (We Shall all be Healed, Heretic Pride and Tallahassee would rank AMONG my favourite albums) but The Sunset Tree is the most cohesive and intense and diverse and brilliant thing I've ever heard. Emotionally exhausting, though.
