I'm shutting down this project. I found out about http://www.last.fm/user/siriusaltnation today, which has been running a lot longer and has better automation. It's strange though. Before I started this project, I did search to see if there was already a similar one and never could find anything. I wonder why I never found theirs before.

Well, it appears the problem I had with the Last.fm API have been fixed. New tracks are being added now.

Figures that friend requests start coming in after I had forgotten about this project. I may work on it again soon now that I have new phone capable of playing last.fm.

Accidentally deleted the entire library. Luckily all of the track info is stored in my own database to keep the script from re-adding old songs. I am gonna have to go back and weed out all of the DJ 'tracks', such as "I am Madison" and "YourAltStation" and "Cane now!".

About Me

What is this?
This is an unofficial Last.fm version of Sirius/XM's Alt Nation station.

Huh?
This was an experiment to see if I could automatically pull a list of recently played tracks from Alt Nation and add them to a Last.fm user library using the API.

Why?
When Sirius and XM merged, they stopped allowing standard satellite radio subscribers to listen to Sirius online for free, so I came up with this idea as a work around.

How's it going so far?
I ran the project for several months, occasionally updating the library with recently played songs. However, in June 2010, I found another service that had already been doing it for a lot longer. I recommend their station if you're looking for an AltNation clone: http://www.last.fm/user/siriusaltnation

Who?
I am Samutz (Website), a web programmer who listens to Alt Nation in the car and at home (via Dish Network).
