alas, Last.fm becomes less fun and less useful now with each passing day -- mostly it would seem due to a horrible implementation of auto-correction.
I deliberately have auto-correction disabled on my profile, yet wrong track version, in fact completely wrong tracks continue to play when scrobbling. Listening to my tag sets, especially my custom discovery tags has become more of a chore than something to enjoy -- why? auto-correction causes things I have not tagged, to play in place of things that I have tagged. And quite a few of these things I have tagged, yet again due to auto-correction, I can no longer change or remove the original tag.
In addition, the client has reverted to a previous problem, where tags deleted from a track don't get removed even though the client reports all is well. This was blamed on slow cache when it was happening many months ago. It is REALLY slow cache if indeed slow cache is the issue -- I just verified that tags were still applied to a track even though I'd deleted them more than 12hrs ago! (I let one run for a week before changing it on-site.)
You can add tags through the client -- they take effect immediately, you just cannot remove tags with the client -- for that, you have to remember to poke through the site.
How utterly frustrating!
And that's not what I was here for -- to be frustrated.
So if this keeps up, I'll not be here much longer. Me & my subscriber dollars & links & recommendations of the site etc. will go elsewhere... or at least be gone from here.
I've enjoyed the ride on Last. I will hate having to leave, but hate this miserable experience of late even more. Later.fm
p.s. I hope they get things fixed, but I doubt that will happen -- Last always seems to plow ahead once they've made a change or decision, without room for admission of possible error. Like perhaps how it wasn't genius after all to piss off two/thirds of their users right about the same time that auto-correct user moderations were coming into place...
I suffer from the malady of music mania. (with apologies to Thomas Jefferson)
Jump over to the UnderKnown Artists group to find some incredible artists which seem amazingly to be unheard of here on Last.fmI'm in it for the music and the pretty pictures. (with apologies to no one)
Last.fm math?
643+4=653
<---- says so right there?
Wow, there is a nifty little radio and recommendation thing going on over at www.thesixtyone.com -- the kicker is that you can set it to scrobble to your Last.fm account, should you so desire!
Unfortunately, t61 recently underwent a major site redesign, accompanied by the removal of most of the functionality of the site. It is really pretty now, but nothing is where it should be, all social interaction is kaput, and as if that wasn't frustrating enough... if you now happen somehow to get a good track going, and attempt to click on something (no tooltips) in an attempt to learn your way around the new site layout; you inevitably switch to another track :(
P.S. -- so I just learned that old.thesixtyone.com is to be available for a short time -- all the social content (shouts, comments, what have you) is gone, but at least the old functionality remains and makes sense. No, its not nearly as pretty, but it works! Who knows for how long?

more useless statistics ;)
My short and long tail are:
eclectic score 89/100
super-eclectic score 697/1000
