Falsetto...Top 10!

6 Jul 2008, 12:50

10 - Maxwell

The guy has been touching our hearts with that falsetto, and I hope he'll keep on keepin' on. Could we give him the title "Best Falsetto Singer of the late 90's"? Could we?

9 - Emmanuel Rahiem LeBlanc

Lead vocalist of GQ, many people still think there's a guest vocalist on "Disco Nights". But it's actually Rahiem, and in the outro of "Sad Girl" he dunks it hard for two.

8 - Wayne Cooper

Former lead vocalist of Cameo, his best work was, I believe "Why Have I Lost You", he sounds like Teena Marie on this song. I'm serious.

7 - Eddie Kendricks & Phillip Bailey

Kendrix's falsetto ability needs no words. He helped the popularization of this style with that powerful voice, R.I.P.

And the latter is, as you know the lead singer of Earth, Wind and Fire. He remains as one of the most influential falsetto singers ever.

6 - Prince

I prefer his natural voice, but his falsetto adds too much soul to the joint, listen to his first three albums, and you'll understand what I'm saying. Stiiiiiilll waiting!

5 - Eldra "El" DeBarge

They say he's a genius on the piano, but they're skipping the point that he plays his vocal-cords as well as he plays his piano. All this props is waiting for you, El.

4 - Michael Jackson

I don't feel like talking about his vocal ability, king of pop doesn't need any compliments.

3 - Barry Gibb

The Bee Gee is so gangsta! It's no surprise he and his brothers had been burnin' all the discos down for more than a decade, his falsetto would still be good to go with some production by Arif Mardin.

2 - Marvin Gaye

The road to all the women's heart is called "falsetto", and Marvin used to take that road on his way to work. R.I.P, soul man!

1 - Curtis Mayfield

His album "Superfly" has the greatest examples of falsetto singing, and that's a fact. Falsetto is known as a tool that creates a romantic ambience, but that tool has other usages, like takin' some hands off the drugs. R.I.P, Curtis!

Wow, I love the history lesson here for I am unfamiliar by name with LeBlanc or maybe I am? I am bad with names!

I would also say that Babyface has a beautiful falsetto.

His collaboration with Eric Clapton with his song, Tears in Heaven, sends SHIVERS down my spine. Eric Clapton wrote the song after his son was killed in a tragic accident here in New York City. He was a toddler who fell out the window of his Clapton's apartment building to his death. Every year as a resident of NYC I have to agree to whether I want window guards to prevent an accident and I think of Clapton everytime I have to sign this agreement. Scary! Clapton has a beautiful falsetto!

How Deep is Your Love by the Bee Gees is my favorite song of ALL time!

You know I sweat Maxwell's voice. His song, "Softly Soflty" with Sweetback highlights his falsetto! Jesus, I literally CRINGE every time I hear it!

Andy Gibb had a beautiful falsetto too! Unfortunately he passed away but MAN, I wanted to marry him when I was a kid! Honestly, I do not think anyone could top the Gibb's with the falsetto voice from my humble opinion although you know I adore everyone on your list. Something about the Gibb brothers is special with their falsetto voices.

OOOh another beautiful falsetto voice is Elliott Smith !!!! OH MY OH MY!

    Elliott Smith - Alamdea

    Oh wait a minute also,
Wham (George Michael and Andrew Rigeley)

Okay I can go on and on! Love your post little brother!

Thanks for reading it! And believe me, I had hard moments while putting this names in a right order. No artist on this list is superior to other I believe. Emmanuel Rahiem LeBlanc is a lesser known artist, few know his name because he rose to fame with his group GQ, but his voice is WAAAAY too underrated.

What happened to Clapton's son is sad, and I support your petition about window guards.

And the Bee Gees! Oh that "How Deep Is Your Love" is the bomb, though my all time fav is "More Than A Woman". These songs give my soul a musical massage.

Thanks for shouting out Wayne Cooper of Cameo. So little seems to be known about him, other than the fact that he passed away years ago. Anyway, he was brilliant!

@Loganno1: Yeah Tiny Tim's a good one too, but this list's focal point is soul/funk/rnb genre, and I had only 10 people to pick so some were left out.

@Gymeni: Oh, nice to see somebody who recognizes Wayne Cooper. Wish he spent more time with Cameo crew.

I have to say the lead singer of Tigercity, Bill Gillim, would be a stellar addition to any falsetto singer list.
