Vocoder

A vocoder analyses incoming sound and reproduces another sound with certain characteristics of the original sound input applied. It is wildly known to be used to create robotic voices in music. Some common vocoder-utilising artists include Kraftwerk, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Air, Eiffel 65, Imogen Heap and Daft Punk. Edit this Artist photo: Solvent

Daft Punk mostly uses talk boxes. These are very similar to vocoders in terms of effect but they use a different set up to achieve it. Talk boxes have a major advantage over vocoders though. Because they use the human mouth to modulate the signal, it's much easier to enunciate with a talk box and thus the resulting vocals are usually a lot clearer.
