Twee

In a pop music context, the term “twee” was originally used by British music journalists in the mid- to late 1980s as an abusive term for Indie Pop. It has since been ‘reclaimed’ by some indiepop fans and used in a neutral sense, but many UK indiepop fans remain horrified by the term and see its application to some indiepop bands such as The Pains of Being Pure at Heart as representing a fundamental misunderstanding of the genre.
