Sophisti-pop

Sophisti-pop is a music genre used to describe a certain kind of smooth radio-friendly pop music with a jazz or soul tinge. First appearing in the mid-1980s, its usual reliance on synthesizers was typical for the decade.     @SoulJazzsterInc: ABBA certainly had complicated or sophisticated song structures, but certainly not much jazz influence. All in all this ever more slicing of genres isn't satisfying. Especially when we stick to artist as base. Too many artists don’t do us the favour to keeping a single genre mind. Even tracks often switch or alternate genre. Remember Bohemian Rhapsody?
