Singer-songwriter is a term that refers to performers who write, compose and sing their own material including lyrics and melodies, often providing the sole accompaniment to an entire composition or song. "How about the great songwriters who just can't sing well enough?" Like Franz Schubert and his lieder, for example. I doubt he sung any of them in a concert hall. That's what professional, classically trained musicians are for. Same for opera composers, etc.

Huh? Last time I checked, arrangements and performance are just as, if not more important, as songwriting. Sorry, but plenty of great artists barely wrote a song in their life (Frank Sinatra, Dinah Shore, almost all classical or opera musicians, ect)
