Post-dubstep

Post-dubstep is a tag used to distinguish between artists that primarily make variations of dubstep, and musicians that employ elements of the genre while being seperate from its main movement. Musically, artists considered post-dubstep share some amount of sonic similarity with dubstep, while maintaining differences such as a movement away from the emphasis on LFO-processed (wobbly) basslines, 2-step based structure, and ‘bass drops’ that some see as essentials to the essence of dubstep. it shouldn't be considered a genre. it's just a way to indicate a wide variety of musical styles that sprouted from the actual dubstep genre (as the tag more or less describes). therefore it would be foolish trying to attirbute it with certain stylistic properties. There is a massive stylistic difference between a James Blake, a Kuedo or a Rustie

@fatalyti - I think the post-dubstep tag started as essentially a synonym of future garage but now with the artists that I'm seeing in the 'Top Artists' seems like people started using the tag willy-nilly. Purity Ring? I don't get it anymore.

How can there be no such thing as post-dubstep? It is a tag. People can tag with whatever they like. If the tag catches on and gains popularity and widespread usage, then it is relevant.

Ok, there is no such thing as post-dubstep. I wanted to say this for a long time. But as ChefSalami already said, it is just an attempt to have a term to 'collect' music which sounds different from what people would call dubstep but still uses elements of it. There are - beware - lots of genres that make use of dubstep elements though! Therefore, I've never liked this horrendous tag. Top bands here can be considered forms of future garage, chillwave, witch house, downtempo, folk - whatever. Often genres that are also relatively new, as is dubstep. And as a relatively new genre, why would anyone even dare to add a 'post-' before it? In times when it's still evolving... plain dumb. Pitchfork idiots, burn. Also, I'd rather call guys like James Blake post-r&b. Or future r&b, as we have come to a time where new electronic music forms are called either 'something-wave' or 'future something'. I can only conclude and facepalm whenever anyone would actually say post-dubstep.

This tag- what a joke! Musical significance has come to a screeching halt.
