Pop punk

Pop punk (also known as punk pop and other names) is a fusion genre that combines elements of punk rock with pop music, to varying degrees. It is not clear when the term pop punk was first used, but pop-influenced punk rock had been around since the 1970s; performed by bands such as the Ramones, Buzzcocks, The Jam, The Undertones, and Generation X. Bad Religion, who started in 1980, were another early band to play the genre, and some consider them godfathers of pop punk. Read more…|Edit this Artist photo: Bowling for Soup

I agree with that. I couldn't care less about Avril, but I'm a fan of both Paramore and FOB. FOB started out as a pop punk band, but that only lasted two albums. Paramore was never really pop punk to begin with though.

This page lacks all the real bands that made this genre. You cant class avril lavigne, paramore and fall out boy as pop punk. Its an insult to the genre. They are just POP

v bands that follow punk ideology but enjoy making catchy pop rock instead of typical punk music. Bands that think they have to imitate the sound and attitude of 70s and 80s punk to actually be punk are about as legitimate as a Civil War reenactor calling himself a veteran of the Civil War. The first wave of punk didn't get anywhere by imitating shit that happened 20 or 30 years ago. If it's annoying the hell out of older fans and genre purists, then it's doing a damn good job of keeping the punk spirit alive.

Pretty much an essence of commerce in music. [2] favorite genre. the fact that it makes cash is just icing on the cake. although unfortunately if's far from the commercial giant it used to be.
