Illbient

Illbient is a term coined by DJ Olive to describe the iconoclastic music being produced by a community of artists based in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York in the early 1990s.     And there's a lot of excellent artists, referenced by this term, who definitely have a relation in sound & atmosphere - just hear all those "Electric Ladyland" and "Crooklyn Dub Consortium" compilations, stuff from WordSound, late 90-s to early 2000's Mick Harris and the like.

    Even though this term is rather artificial and coined in order to briefly refer to that whole "Brooklyn sound" in musical journalism, i find it rather handy to use, better than something like "ambient-dub".
