Freak folk

Freak Folk is a style that uses mainly acoustic instruments; mostly guitar (often in alternate tunings) and occasionally violin or flute, accompanied by percussion instruments such as bongos. Used correctly, it tends to refer to music with long instrumental/psychedelic passages (and that may utilize drones), or “poppier” folk music with elaborately baroque, psychedelic or oppressive atmospheres. Ha, genres are not stupid! They're what is used to gather similar sounding artists together. How else would you collect your music with such a rambling jumble of mess, Burzum next to BoC next to GaGa and no way to find out which is to your liking without testing every single one.
