probably people find it sexist because it reproduces the idea of masculinity as "universal", whereas anything not according to this has to be tagged as "something else" or "the other thing", regarding the fact that few people seem to find it necessary to tag songs/bands as "male vocalist".

There is never a time when I want to exclusively listen to male vocalists. But if I'm in the mood for something pretty then I might want to listen exclusively to female vocalists. Not that male vocalists can't make pretty music, just that I find it more soothing to hear a woman sing. I don't understand why this would be sexist. Tags are there as a radio filter or whatever. Enjoying female singer-songwriters or bands fronted by females isn't sexists by any means. Can someone explain this? People keep throwing that out or say this is a stupid tag but I haven't seen anyone back any of this up.
